Phil Wood
The Magic In The Bag Of Phil Mickelson
There is some important point in the bag of Phil Mickelson, the winner of Tour Championship. Since a lot of golfers on the PGA Tour use custom-made clubs, but Phil Mickelson’s 18° Callaway hybrid is truly unique.
When asked about it in June prior to the start of the U.S. Open at Bethpage, he said, “This is a special club I actually made, taking the back part of the hybrid out so that I can open it way up and get through that thick rough.”
No other player on Tour has one, although a few Callaway staff players have tried one at the company’s headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.
But don’t hold your breathe hoping that Callaway is going to make a version of the club available anytime soon. Justin Timberlake, who is a paid member of the Callaway Golf staff, also tried a Mickelson-spec hybrid at the company’s test center and loved it. After asking Callaway representatives if he could have it, he was politely told no.
Hey, if a guy who has dated Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz can’t score one …
Here is a list of the clubs that Mickelson used to win at East Lake:

Katy Lied $2.58 The last of the truly classic first four Steely Dan albums, the 1975 Katy Lied also sounds like the best. While retaining a solid rock foundation, the music finds Walter Becker and Donald Fagen engaging their jazz influences more successfully than ever; Fagen’s piano fills alone are some of the most impressive music laid to tape in the ’70s. The songs, too, rate with the team’s very best, whether … |

Thelonious Monk – Straight No Chaser $14.97 This exemplary documentary about seminal jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk reaps the benefits of multiple blessings, including the skilled editorial hand of director Charlotte Zwerin and the patronage of executive producer (and erstwhile jazz pianist) Clint Eastwood. Most vital is the use of extensive 1968 footage, shot by Michael and Christian Blackwood, documenting the sometimes moo… |

Born $6.68 Born, the debut album by four conservatory-trained young women, has little to do with classical music. It’s a gimmick, fusing a string quartet of frivolous femmes, spicy girls who all want to be “Posh,” with dance beats, a big production mixing their violins, viola, and cello with polished electronics. Taking themselves less than seriously–they played the James Bond theme at their Royal Albert Ha… |

Bang the Drum Slowly [VHS] $9.96 Only those with ice water in their veins won’t get misty-eyed watching this moving film about the friendship of two professional baseball players, one of whom–in every sense–is playing his last season. A pre-stardom Robert De Niro portrays a rather simple-minded rookie catcher who comes under the wing of a veteran pitcher (Michael Moriarty). When De Niro’s character is diagnosed with Hodgkin’s … |

Saturday Night Live – The Best of 96-97 [VHS] $3.25 Saturday Night Live was not exactly in its heyday in the late 1990s. But despite some lackluster characters and casts, there are still a few moments that shine humorously through. Opening with Norm MacDonald’s Bob Dole meeting the real Bob Dole (who with good spirit mocks himself), The Best of ’96-’97 is off to a running start. This 92-minute clip tape contains a monologue by Chris Rock and skits … |
